This backer rod is a soft, non-gassing, pliable bi-cellular backer material for construction joints and sealant applications. It acts as a depth control for most cold-applied sealants and also helps the sealant take optimal hourglass shape. Sealants will not adhere to it; no bond breaker is required. This is why soft backer rod is a popular choice.
Soft backer rod is particularly suitable for applications with irregular and variable joint widths where standard closed-cell backer rods are not appropriate and where bubbling issues are critical. Soft backer rod can also be used in place of standard closed-cell backer rod in most applications.
Common applications for soft backer rod include expansion and contraction joints, window glazing, curtain wall construction partitions, parking lots, bridge and highway construction pavement maintenance, and log home chinking.
